Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Autumn Quilts

Now that fall is officially here and the temps are beginning to drop it will be getting a little chilly at night time so what is a better way to keep away the cool temps? Why it is a quilt! :) Here are a few beautiful autumn themed quilts from the artist of Etsy. The colors of fall are so gorgeous (my favorite time of year!) and these artists have truly made the colors pop!

This quilt from Quilted Pleasures show some really pretty leaves and great contrasting black and orange colors.

JennyMQuilts also has all the colors of fall in this lap quilt.

Now....what is one of the most recognized things of fall....yep....pumpkins and AQuiltingV has a whole patch of pumpkins on this beautiful quilt.

So...do you want to get really energetic and really get involved in making a beautiful fall quilt? Well if so take a look at this quilt kit from Quilters Paradise. WOW....what a beautiful quilt....a bit over my head, but I bet some of you quilters could whip this up in no time. :)

Wish I had more time to do make lots of autumn quilts and I do love looking at all of them and all the great fall colors. So get those quilting needles out and get busy sewing. :)

Happy sewing!

Colleen :)

Needles-n-Pins: How To Make Fall Leaves

I think one of the prettiest things about fall is all the colors of the leaves and plants. There are so many trees and different leaves and they all turn a different color. Bringing those leaves and colors into your home for your fall decorating can really add a splash of color to your home.

Since I love to decorate for fall I was looking for ways to make some fall leaves and thought I would share some of the ideas I found with you.

Now I am a crocheter so I thought I would start with this one. Craftstylish has this great tutorial on how to crochet these cute leaves.

Burlap items are very popular right now so I thought...hey....why not make some fall leaves out of burlap. Fox Hollow Cottage will show you how to do this.

Looks at these pretty glittery leaves! And they are sooooooooooooo easy to make!  6th Street Design School will show you how to make these. I think I could even do this! :)

My true love is quilts. I love to make quilts and quilted items although time restraints keep me from this at times. Here is a great tutorial from Buttons And Butterflies on how to make quilted fall leaf pot holders. I think I will try this one myself.

Looking at all these tutorials really makes me want to get started on making some fall leaves for my decorating. Hmmmmm.....which one should I start with....let me see. :)

Happy sewing and crafting!

Colleen :)

Jacquie's Up-Cycle Nation: Fall Frolic

Autumn has officially arrived and it's time to deck the hall with all things fall!  Time to pull out the pumpkins, air out the woolens, and fill vintage bowls with candy corn. The Etsy up-cycle artists are busy crafting perfect autumn accessories!

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Wintering Plants and Gardens

Now that fall is here and some of us need to get our gardens and flowers ready for old man winter, I thought I would share some ideas on how to get those gardens ready for the winter season and bring some of those plants inside.

Many people talk about bring their geraniums inside for the winter. I don't have any geraniums, but several people I know do bring them inside. The Weekend Gardner has the information for you to do this.

Now many of you have vegetable and flower gardens over the summer that need to get ready for the long sleep ahead. The Farmers Almanac has some really good tips for this.

Most of us in the north country have greenhouse for our growing of vegetable. If you are one of these people here is some ideas from Experimental Homesteader on getting your greenhouse ready for the winter.

Last but not least....let's not forget your lawn. In order for your lawn to make it through the winter and be ready for the spring there are a few things that will help it make it through the winter that you can do and Do It Yourself has all the tips for you.

So whether you have vegetable garden, flowers or lawns all these need to be prepared for the winter. I don't know if I am quite ready to be talking winter here tho.........I think I will enjoy more of the fall for now.

Happy gardening!

Colleen :)

Jacquie's Up-Cycle Nation: Autumn Craft Supplies

Growing up in New England, I loved creating autumn decorations with my mother.  Her craft supply closet had almost everything we needed for primitive leaf garlands, pumpkin pot holders, and wee festive critters.  What we didn't have on hand we could find in nature or dye to meet our color needs.  Today's Etsy up-cycle artists are still employing time-tested techniques to produce top quality supplies hot fall trends.
Cooler autumn evenings lend themselves to working with warm wool.  3BagsFulled is busy turning last year's sweaters into this fall's craft supplies.  Perfect for penny wool, wool applique, and small sewing patterns.
Vintage ephemera adds instant whimsy to any project!  These orange and white transportation tickets are available at ZoeAmaris, where the shelves are well stocked with paper supplies for every season and so much more!

Gourds galore are waiting for creative souls at ridgetopcottage. This Etsy up-cycle artist works with Mother Nature to perfect the canvas straight from the earth.
Vintage buttons are the icing on the creative cake!  From pillow accents to changing the look of a favorite jacket to breath-taking jewelry, the versatile button stands center stage!  Pick up these brassy beauties at AddVintage.
Wrap it up!  Don't forget the ribbon.  The final touch for every autumn masterpiece.  Howsewears crafts vintage inspired ribbons by hand-dying seam binding in colors that inspire!
For more fabulous supplies search recycled craft supply on Etsy.

Needles-n-Pins Stitcheries: Preserving Fall Leaves Video

Well fall is definitely upon us up here in the north country and I am thinking a lot of you are starting to get some leaf color also. I know that certain parts of the country have gorgeous colors of leaves in the fall and I wish I had those up here. We do get a lot of pretty ground color, but the leaves are mostly yellow and gold.

Now...for those of you that have all those pretty leaves and would like to learn how to preserve them for fall decorating I found this video from Frank Knowles to show you. I am a visual person so I always like videos to show me how to do things.

Maybe I could use this technique on some of the ground leaves we have. I think it would work with the crimson fireweed we have. Hope this video helps you with your leaf preserving. :)

Happy crafting!

Colleen :)

Jacquie's Up-Cycle Nation: September Stroll

September signals the coming of chilly mornings, sun-warmed afternoons, and the start of the autumn blaze of color. It is the return to bus stop walks with kiddos and lingering outside as the seasons change.  Right in step, Etsy up-cycle artists are crafting the perfect September stroll accessories!

Autumn is never complete without that famed fallen foliage crunching underfoot!  Believe it or not- some parts of the world never experience the brilliance of fall foliage. Luckily, botanicalart stocks pressed New England leaves ready to ship for insta-autumn!

Fall means colder weather is on the way! Transition to autumn's cooler temperatures with an up-cycled cashmere scarf .  Perfect for layering and oh so soft, this fiery orange beauty is made by RhodeIslandRag.

Keep that hair in check by accessorizing with signs of the season! Swing into BedfordFalls for stunning one of a kind headbands. Inspired by nature, this leather leaf is the perfect accent for everyday and easy to grab on the go.
Warm autumn afternoons are made for a good read!  Keep that place in the pages with fall inspired bookmarks like these beauties from MatteoGrilliArt.  Speaking of bookmarks, favorite this Etsy artist for gorgeous wildlife art and gifts!
Don't forget the shades!  Even though it's getting chilly the sun still shines on bright.  Score this classic pair at VintageKismet where quality sunglasses stand front and center.
To find more up-cycled autumn gems search recycled fall on Etsy.
