Witches Stitches - Fabric Tree

I have an antique farm table in my living room and I like to do a holiday display on it, I like to do snowmen and trees. You can make a great fabric tree that is so easy and looks so great. You can also make the pattern in a minute and make them in all different sizes. 3 different sizes look great together with 2 snowmen and some greens.  Here is how to make the trees.

Step 1 – Making the pattern. It is so easy, make a triangle out of freezer paper. Two long sides will be 9” and the bottom short side will be 6”. Choose the fabric you want to use. Iron your freezer paper pattern on to your fabric, SHINNY SIDE DOWN. It will stick, when your done just peel off you can us it over and over again. Now sew around it using the paper as your sewing line, right side of the fabric together. You will need to make 3 of these. When you sew around the paper pattern you will need to leave most of the bottom part open to stuff it later. Only sew in and inch on each side of the bottom. If you sew any further than that, there will not be enough room to stuff the tree section. Make sure all 3 of your tree triangles are the same size.

Step 2 – After you have sewn 3 trees turn to the right side and press your tree making sure you
press the opening so the edges are turned under.

Step 3 – Stack all 3 fabric triangles on top of each other so they all are lined up. Now you have a stack of the 3 triangles, you will need to sew a straight line down the center of the three so they are now stitched together.  Now you have a tree with 6 sections.
Step 5 – This is the fun part. You get to decorate your tree as you want. I added a rusty star, some rusty wire and safety pins.  My living room is prim so I made my tree to match.  Making these trees in a shabby chic fabric looks really great. Do you have a child at college? How about making a tree to send them in their school colors. Do you have a garden room? One of these in a flower fabric and then just glue the bottom of the tree to the top rim of a vintage flower pot.  You can do so much with them and they do make great gifts. I have found people truly love gifts made from the heart.
As always if you have any questions please give me a shout and thanks for reading. Enjoy, Faith
